NIGERIAN striker, Joseph Akpala failed to score as Club Brugge lost 2-3 at home to Danish side FC Copenhagen to crash out of the UEFA Champions League.

The Belgian club thus failed to seal a playoff spot as the tie ended 3-2 in favour of the Danish club.

Akpala came on as an 81st minute substitute for Carl Hoefkens with the score tied at 2-2.

The forward’s efforts provided little reward as the Danish side scored the winner at the death through Cesar Santin.

Meanwhile there was joy for Nigeria’s captain, Joseph Yobo as his Turkish club, Fenerbahce qualified for the playoffs following a 4-1 success at Vaslui on Wednesday thanks to a Dirk Kuyt hat-trick.

Yobo was not listed as Fenerbahce powered to a 5-2 aggregate success.
