Britannica resource to go online

A digital version of the Encyclopaedia Britannica is being made available to every school in Scotland for free.

Every primary and secondary school in the country will have free access to the digital resource until the end of October.

Bosses hope the package, which has been specially created for schools, will let students and teachers “rediscover” Britannica – founded in Edinburgh in 1768 – in the digital age.

They claim that, unlike other free online resources, the Britannica online school edition has been designed to make sure that students can research safely online without accessing inappropriate or factually inaccurate material.

The printed edition of the encyclopaedia ended its run in March this year.
