STORIES OF THE DAY
New Life for South Africa
South Africa’s “Blade Runner,” Oscar Pistorius, stood at the start line of the 4x400m relay qualifier on Wednesday and watched his Olympic dreams tumble along with teammate Ofentse Mogawane. Arguing that Mogawane’s fall on the track was caused by Kenya’s Vincent Mumo Kiilu, the South African team appealed to IAAF and won their case.
Pistorius and Mogawane will be joined by Willem de Beer and Shaun de Jager, hoping to capture South Africa’s first medal in this event since silver at Antwerp 1920. Standing in their way is the current World Champion American squad
