Four of Arsenal’s first-team players are expected in Nigeria next week, SuperSport.com can report.

The players are Tomas Rosicky, Bacary Sagna, Per Mertesacker and new signing, Lukas Podolski.

The quartet will travel to Lagos in the company of Gunners’ officials on the weekend starting July 27, confirmed Arsenal’s Head of Global Partnerships, Vinai Venkatesham on the club’s official website.

The Arsenal players will take part in activities with partners and supporters of the club in the West African nation following their postponement of a friendly game against the Nigerian men’s national team, the Super Eagles, in Abuja.

Arsenal have an existing partnership with Malta Guinness and Airtel in Nigeria.

“We were disappointed to have postponed the game and intend to visit Nigeria next summer, but we are delighted to be bringing this group of players to Nigeria.

“It will give us a chance to engage with local supporters and reinforce our commitment to the market,” said Venkatesham.

The four players will also take part in promotional events for Malta Guinness and Airtel.

Marketing Manager for (Malta) Guinness Nigeria Plc, Emmanuel Agu, said: “Malta Guinness is the Official Malt Drink of Arsenal in Nigeria and we are looking forward to welcoming the Arsenal players to Lagos.”

Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director for Airtel Nigeria, Deepak Srivastava, also explained why the Arsenal stars are coming to Nigeria.

“Arsenal has a very large supporter base in Nigeria and Airtel is eager to connect these fans with some of their favourite football players,” said Srivastava.

Arsenal were scheduled to play Nigeria on August 5 in Abuja but postponed it “as a result of complexities linked to the planned game.”
